H. LEROY GUNNELL

H. LeRoy Gunnell, 88, of the 3300 block of Camellia Dr., died March 14, 1996 in a local nursing home.

He was born in Patrick County and worked as a supervisor with Civil Service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was retired. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of Portsmouth Naval Masonic Lodge 100 AF and AM. He was also a member of Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies Order of the Eastern Star Miriam Chapter 94.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen B. Gunnell; a daughter, Lynette G. Whitley of Portsmouth; a son, Douglas L. Gunnell of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren, Karen W. Honaker, T. Alva Whitley Jr., Todd Gunnell and his wife, Julie, Jeffrey Gunnell and his wife, Cecelia, and Chris Gunnell; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kristen, Bryan.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Centenary United Methodist Church, the Rev. Donald H. Seely presiding. The burial will be private. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, in charge. The family will greet friends at the church following the memorial service. Masonic rites will be accorded at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church.
