Susan Y. Hummel, 38, of the 2500 block of S. Battlefield Blvd., died March 16, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Hummel was born in Atlantic City, N.J., and was self-employed as a business owner and journalist. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Dean's list, National Library of Poetry and National Honor Society.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hummel; three daughters, Brenda Marie Hummel, Deborah Ann Hummel and Christina Yvonne Hummel, all of Chesapeake; her mother, Jane Studebaker and father, Robert Studebaker, both of Norfolk; four sisters, Sandra K. Hodge of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Beth Ring of Bedford, Va., May Beth Velke of Manassas, Va. and Kathleen Reid of Norfolk; two brothers, Robert P. Studebaker of Yorktown, Va. and Patrick S. Studebaker of Camp Pendleton, Calif.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. John J. Dorgan. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. Contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
