COAST GUARD SUSPENDS SEARCH FOR THREE

The Coast Guard suspended indefinitely the search for three crewmen missing from a capsized boat that left Hilton Head, S.C., with four Hampton Roads men and a man from Charleston, S.C., last week.

Scott Carr, a Coast Guard spokesman, said rescuers have been unable to locate the three men.

On Friday, the Coast Guard reported finding two bodies. They were identified as Mark Piffer of Norfolk and Brad Lazarus. Lazarus' home address was not available.

The three missing men were identified as Mike Clarke, 60, of Virginia Beach; Rodney Meyers, 30, of Norfolk. The Charleston man was identified as Berry Douglas.

All five had been reported missing Thursday morning after their 27-foot boat overturned during a storm.

The boat had been taking soil samples from the ocean floor off Hilton Head for a beach project.
