U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.) First Sergeant John Jongkindt Jr., 60, died April 2, 1996, in his residence.
He also was the owner of Independent Polygraph Service of Hampton. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1973 after 20 years of service. He was a native of California and the former president of F.O.P. Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve Association.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Rhue Jongkindt; three beloved stepdaughters, Diana Gagne and her husband, David of Virginia Beach, Patricia A. Stublen of Portsmouth, Delores Mintz and her husband, John of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Catherine Hill and Ann Walters, both of California, Betty Knapp of Florida, Angie Dunston of New York; brother, Harold Jongkindt of Seattle, Wash.; four special grandchildren, Barry Short of Richmond, John Loften Mintz of Virginia Beach, David J. Gagne II of Virginia Beach, Marie Katharine Gagne of Virginia Beach.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by Chaplain Robert Adair in Chapel in the Woods, N.A.S., Norfolk. Burial is private. The family asks that all flowers be omitted and memorials be sent to the Children's Hospital of The Kings Daughters, Children's Way, Norfolk, 23507. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge.
