THELMA R. PURVIS

Thelma Riddick Purvis, 68, a retired government employee, died April 22, 1996, in DePaul Hospital.

Mrs. Purvis, a native of Virginia Beach, formerly Princess Anne County, retired from the Naval Air Station after over 15 years of service. She was a member of New Mount Zion AME Church in Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Ida Riddick.

Survivors include a son, James R. Purvis Jr. of Chesapeake; a daughter, Joyce A. Purvis of Norfolk; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Mr. James R. Purvis Sr., and a son, Tyrone Purvis.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in New Mount Zion AME Church, 102 Seekel St., by the Rev. James G. Smith. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. The family will be at 1031 Wilmington St.
