THOMAS POWELL JR.

Thomas ``Tom'' Powell Jr., 75, of 17023 Florida Ave., died Friday April 26, 1996, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Isle of Wight County and retired in 1983 as a burner from Newport News Shipbuilding with 45 years of service. Mr. Powell was a member of Central Hill Baptist Church and its adult Bible class. He was a volunteer at Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum. He was a charter member of Isle of Wight Ruritan Club and a member of the Hardee's Coffee Club, Smithfield.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Drewery Powell; two sons, Tony Ray Powell of Smithfield, Teddy Seward Powell and his wife, Ellen, of Windsor; a sister, Merle P. Smith of Benn's Church; a brother, James P. Powell of Smithfield; and a grandson, Kevin Drewery Powell of Chesapeake.

The funeral will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. in Central Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. John McQuarry officiating. Burial will follow in Central Hill Church Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and suggests memorial contributions may be made to Central Hill Baptist Church, c/o Ollie Logan, 14200 Raynor Road, Ivor, Va., 23866.
