CAROLE S. JOHNSON

Carole Shelton Johnson, 49, of the 5700 block of Constance Court, died April 27, 1996. She was a devoted wife and friend and she loved her children.

A native of Chesapeake, Carole was a graduate of Great Bridge High School and Old Dominion University where she was a member of Chi Omega National Sorority, Gama Gama Honorary Leadership Fraternity, homecoming queen, and class president. Carole was selected to Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities from 1967-69. She was a probation officer for Chesapeake Juvenile Court System where she devoted herself for eight years to the city's youth in crisis. Her devotion to youth continued throughout her life.

Carole is survived by her husband, Stephen L. Johnson; her daughters, Laura Eleanor Norton and Beth Anne Bedois, both of Virginia Beach; her son, Anderson Hassell Norton III of Baltimore, Md.; her granddaughter, Cori Anne Bedois; and the children's father, Allan Hassell Norton. Other survivors include three aunts, Madge Slack of Greensboro, N.C., Lucille York of Asheboro, N.C., and Helen Saunders Wood of Asheboro, N.C.; an uncle, Jim Shelton of Liberty, N.C.; and two nephews, John Williams of Pensacola, Fla., and Gregory Williams of Colorado. Carole was the daughter of the late Vadie Mac Shelton and Eleanor Slack Shelton. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Susan Knight Marconyak of Virginia Beach.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Father Christian J. Haydinger officiating. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and also at 257 Downing Drive, Chesapeake, following the services on Wednesday.
