WRECK VICTIM IDENTIFIED

A Chesapeake woman who was seriously injured Monday in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 258 has been identified as Anita Scaggs, 27.

Scaggs was taken by air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was listed in stable condition in an intensive care unit Tuesday evening.

The accident, which killed 39-year-old David W. Baines of Suffolk, occurred in Isle of Wight County just west of State Route 609 at 4:10 p.m. Baines was killed when his 1986 Ford Ranger pickup was struck head-on by an Isuzu pickup being driven by Scaggs.

Police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame said the Isuzu, which was going south, swerved into the northbound lane, hitting the Ford.

Van Dame said Scaggs, who was thrown from the truck, was not wearing a seatbelt. The investigation into the wreck is continuing.
