COAST GUARD SAVES HAITIAN FREIGHTER CREWS

Two Coast Guard cutters teamed up to save the crews of two Haitian freighters disabled by rough seas in the Caribbean over the weekend.

One of the freighters sank after taking on water through numerous cracks in its hull. Its crew was transferred onto the other freighter, which was towed into port Monday at Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas by the Portsmouth-based cutter Northland.

The Wilmington, N.C.-based Diligence was also involved in the rescue operation, which began Saturday about 60 miles northeast of Great Inagua. by CNB
