ONE NEW BUSINESS OPENS AND ANOTHER IS COMING TO SUFFOLK

With construction about 30 days ahead of schedule, the Rite-Aid pharmacy at Main Street and Constance Road opened for business Wednesday.

The 11,575-square-foot building project progressed very smoothly, according to Supt. Pete Kelley of Creech Construction Corp.

The 7,200-square-foot building behind the pharmacy is a video store, owned by Moovies Video. It is expected to open by the end of June.

The South Carolina corporation has 16 locations in Hampton Roads.

The new store represents the company's first entry into Suffolk, a move District Manager Scot Hartraft heralded as a ``virtually untapped market.'' The full-service video store features new-release rentals for $3.25 for a three-day, two night rental period, and children's selections are free with an accompanying regular rental.

Refreshments such as sodas, popcorn and candy will also be offered at this location, Hartraft said.

The store will carry between 8,000 and 11,000 titles in a variety of categories, Hartraft said. Membership is free with a driver's license and major credit card and can be obtained for $3 without a major credit card.

``We're hoping people will see us as a breath of fresh air,'' Hartraft said. by CNB
