JOSEPH E. BUTLER

Joseph Eldridge Butler, 77, of Portsmouth, died May 25, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.

Mr. Butler, a native of Portsmouth, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a supervisor. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 418, Moose Lodge 898, and was a Army veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Jayne Worley Butler.

Survivors include two daughters, Amanda B. Wimberley of Portsmouth, Carolyn B. Ommert of Arlington, Va.; a son, Joseph Graham Butler of Norfolk; a sister, Margaret B. Williamson of Catlett, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Cemetery by the Rev. James Griffin. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of St. Therese Catholic Church.
