James Warwick Jones, a painter from Seaford, won the $1,500 best-in-show award at the 26th annual Seawall Art Show held recently.
As many of his works exhibited this year shows, acrylic paintings by Jones often depict rural sights and scenes. The top Seawall show prize is a purchase award, and Jones' painting will become part of the Civic Arts Collection.
The show was judged by Larry Stene, a professor in the fine arts department of Washington and Lee University.
Other top winners in the show:
Donna Dellaganna of Earlyville, wildlife painting, second place, $1,000.
James Richmond of Titusville, Fla., photography, third place, $750.
Howard Johnson of Portsmouth, pottery, fourth place, $500.
Honorable mention awards of $100 each went to Ed Cope of Orange, Mass., wood sculpture; Wendy Newman of Newport News, jewelry; Robert Carter of Richmond, watercolor painting; Raymond Bell of Dumfries, oil paintings.
Awards of merit, each carrying a $50 prize, went to Michele Messick of Titusville, photography; Wayne Potrafka of Portsmouth, pottery; Willie Williams Jr. of Portsmouth, mixed media; Stuart Saul of Chesapeake, oil painting; and Paul Brennan of Knotts Island, N.C., watercolor painting.
A student art show ran concurrently and also was judged by Stene.
The top student winners:
Bobby Wahrenburg of Wilson High School, first place, $100.
Bryan Risi of Churchland High, second place, $75.
Tammar Chisholm of Churchland, third place, $50.
Tabatha Thornhill of Wilson, fourth place, $25.
Honorable mention and $10 prizes went to Nathan Lewis of Wilson, Kesha Daniels of Norcom High, William Martin of Churchland, Jeff Malota of Churchland and Rachel Paige of Churchland. by CNB
