EXHIBIT TO FEATURE WORK OF LATIN-AMERICAN ARTISTS

Latin-American artists who live in the Pacific Northwest will display their work in an exhibit called ``Reencuentros/Reencounters: Latin Identity in the Northwest of the U.S.A.,'' which opens today at the Arts Center.

Reencuentros, a project of Washington State/Chile Partners of the Americas, is presented as a postscript to the activities observing the 500 years of Columbus' encounter with the New World. The work of the artists represents the dual reality that many Latinos face. Many are born in the United States and must carry their Latino ancestry, creating a hybrid heritage nurtured by both American and European roots. The exhibit continues through Aug. 18.

Angel Morales, founder of Interes Hispano and chairperson for the Multi-Cultural Committee for the Arts in Virginia Beach, will present a lecture on ``Hispanic Awareness in the U.S.A.'' at 11 a.m. today in the main gallery of the Arts Center.

Reencuentros is on display in conjunction with ``Rebecca Kamen and Peggy Feerick: Vessels of Self-Reflection.'' Kamen will present a slide/lecture on the evolution of her abstract sculpture at 10 a.m. today.
