FLOSSIE T. ASHLEY

Flossie L. Thompson Ashley, 92, of the 4300 block of Deep Creek Blvd., died July 8, 1996, at the residence of her daughter, Alice V. Dayton.

She was born in Wyoming County, W.Va., and formerly resided in Caples, W.Va., then South Point, Ohio, before moving to Portsmouth.

She as a homemaker, a devoted Christian and a member of the Salvation Army Home League in Welch, W.Va.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stacy P. Ashley; a son, Stacy Garfield Ashley; her mother, Viola Roberts Thompson; her father, Raleigh Wytheville Thompson; and three sisters, Lakie Thompson, Lanie Laratta and Lessie Dillion.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Ashley of Wheeling, Ill., and Walter K. Ashley (Korea) of Newport News; four daughters, Gracie E. Childress of Lexington, Ky., Geneva L. Gervais of Orange Park, Fla., Madeline V. Thacker of Anderson, S.C., and Alice V. Dayton (Susie) of Portsmouth; two daughters-in-laws, Betty Ashley of Wheeling, Ill., and Linda Ashley of Newport News; two sons-in-law, Royal Thacker of Anderson, S.C., and Samuel R. Dayton of Portsmouth; two brothers, Hersel Thompson of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Stacy Thompson of Whitwell, Tenn.; three sisters-in-law, Ola Thompson of Marengo, Ohio, Edith Thompson of Harrodsburg, and Hazel Thompson of Mann, W.Va.; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fanning Funeral Home, Welch, W.Va., today from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at Fanning Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Kenneth Felts in Welch, W.Va., on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, Mercer County, W.Va. Pallbearers will be Sherman Walker, Frankie Dillon, Johnny Dillon, Danny Pacamo, Clyde Martin and Billy Cecil. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
