GUSSIE M. EVANS

Gussie M. Evans, 78, of the 3700 block of Omohundro Ave., died July 9, 1996, in DePaul Medical Center.

A Norfolk native, she was the daughter of the late Louise Jenkins and Zannie Mason. She was the widow of John Thomas Evans Jr. She was a dedicated and active member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk, where she served on the Deaconess Board and in the Willing Workers Club. She was a former member of the Board of Christian Education and also served as a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years. She was a member of Ideal Lodge Peachblossom (NU)362.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Land of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jean Lancaster of Portsmouth; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

A funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Peter Wherry in Queen Street Baptist Church, 413 E. Brambleton Ave. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge. Viewing will be held Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at 3715 Omohundro Ave.
