JAMES E. HATFIELD JR.

James Edward Hatfield Jr., 79, of the 18100 block of Line Pine Road, died Aug. 9, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hatfield was a native of Southampton County and was the son of the late James Edward and Bertha Council Hatfield. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Hatfield was a lifelong member of Black Creek Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, trustee, former superintendent of the Sunday school and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the Black Creek-Burdette Ruritan Club and the Senior Young at Heart Group.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eunice Faison Hatfield; three sons, J. Edward Hatfield III and Larry W. Hatfield, both of Franklin, and Ernest L. Hatfield of Hickory, N.C.; a sister, Vaughan H. Bradshaw; and a brother, Joseph Alvin Hatfield, both of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Patricia H. Lowe of Sedley, Amanda H. Greene of Rocky Mount, N.C., Sandy H. Edwards of Ivor, J. Maria Hatfield of Greensboro, N.C., and Jamie D. Hatfield, Amber M. Hatfield and Lauren Rose Hatfield, all of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Bobby and Rebecca Lowe, Mary Katelin Hatfield and Jenni Green.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Black Creek Baptist Church by the Revs. Wayne Underwood and Willis Switzer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, and they suggest that memorials may be made to the Black Creek Baptist Church, 34163 Vicksville Road, Franklin, 23851. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
