BETTY N. CANDLER

Betty Nichols Candler, 71, gently passed into the bosom of the Lord on Aug. 13, 1996, in the home of her son, Dr. Robert A. Candler of Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Candler was born in Pike County, Ky. in 1925. She was married in 1948 to Maj. George Orville Candler Jr., U.S. Marine Corps of Roanoke, who had recently passed away. She was a graduate of Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1948. Betty Jo had retired from nursing after caring for patients at Community Hospital in Roanoke and Catawba State Geriatric Hospital in Catawba, Va., among others.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, G. Michael Candler and his wife, Cynthia Hughes Candler of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. Robert A. Candler and his wife, Shannon Russell Candler of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Brian Candler and Tracy Candler, both of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Zachary Candler, John Candler, Abigail Candler, all of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews.

A Christian Funeral Liturgy will be conducted Friday at 7:30 p.m. by Father James E. Parke in Church of the Ascension. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity. All will sorely miss her selflessness, her love for her family and friends, and her faithful presence as mother and friend. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is in charge.
