ALICE L. MATTHEWS

Alice Lorraine ``Bootsie'' Matthews, 63, of the 5600 block of Springwood Dr., went to be with the Lord on Oct. 1, 1996.

A native of Portsmouth, Mrs. Matthews was a Christian and member of Westhaven Baptist Church since her birth. She was a graduate of Churchland High School class of 1950 and a graduate of King's Daughters Hospital School of Nursing class of 1953. On completion of her state boards, she received her registered nurse's degree. She was actively employed until five years ago.

She was the wife of William S. Matthews and the daughter of Marie Harrison and the late Matthew Harrison of Portsmouth. Other survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Matthews, Laura Piland and her husband, Greg Piland; and a granddaughter, Ashlyn Piland, all of Chesapeake.

Family and friends may meet at Loving Funeral Home, Portsmouth, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Westhaven Baptist Church with the Rev. W. Thomas Wood officiating. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Westhaven Baptist Church to spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
