WEEKEND. PEANUT FESTIVAL

SUFFOLK LOVES its nuts, and the city celebrates them this weekend with the Suffolk Peanut Fest, tonight through Sunday at Suffolk Municipal Airport. The fun includes rides, entertainment, a rodeo, a demolition derby, fireworks (9 tonight) and lots of music, like The Marshall Tucker Band (9:30 tonight), Beatlemania Live (8 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday) and headliner Martina McBride (4 p.m. Sunday).

It's from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. 538-0109.

- Roberta Vowell "TOY STORY" OPENS WED.

A SLIPPERY TOY STORE is what Hampton Coliseum and Norfolk Scope will soon resemble. Skating into Hampton Roads this week is Walt Disney's World on Ice ``Toy Story.'' That's right - Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Mr. Potato Head are but a few of the characters from the Disney movie that'll be slicing across the ice. Inside those costumes will be an international cast of figure skating champions. Olympic gold Medalist, Robin Cousins of Great Britain, provided the show's cutting edge choreography. Shows begin Wednesday and continue through Oct. 20 at Hampton Coliseum (838-4203) and Oct. 23-27 at Norfolk Scope (664-6464). Tickets run $10.50 to $16.50. To order (remember there'll be a service charge), call 671-8100.

- Roy Bahls PAM TILLIS Tonight Free

MEL TILLIS' LITTLE GIRL has been making a big country splash with hits like ``When You Walk in the Room,'' ``Maybe It Was Memphis'' and ``Don't Tell Me What to Do.'' You can hear Pam Tillis and even maybe her fun-time release ``Betty's Got a Bass Boat,'' at a free 5 p.m. concert tonight at Norfolk's Town Point Park. It's part of a weekend full of ``Fleet Week Hampton Roads'' events in honor of our sea-going services. Other ``Fleet Week'' highlights include ship tours, a Chili Cook-Off, the Bill Pickett Invitational Black Rodeo and much more. Details at 322-2857. See our Fleet Week Calendar on Page E9.

- Roy Bahls THE CONNELLS Saturday

THERE ARE few givens in pop music, but this is certain: The Connells sell out Norfolk's Boathouse every single time. No reason to expect otherwise Saturday night. The Raleigh, N.C., pop-rockers, touring behind their new album ``Weird Food & Devastation,'' headline ``XFest,'' sponsored by WROX-FM. Sharing the bill are the Primitive Radio Gods, Gravity Kills and Kevin Salem. It starts at 8:30. Tix: $9.96 plus service charge. Order at 671-8100.
