DISTRICT A

Petty larceny, 2800 block Holiday Point Drive, Oct. 17, a black and white mailbox in the shape of a cow was removed from a front yard.

Petty larceny, 4500 block Shoulders Hill, Oct. 21, someone removed a balloon, ceramic angel and flower arrangement from a grave site.

DISTRICT B

Grand larceny, 3300 block Pruden Blvd., Oct. 21, a student's flute was removed from her locker while she was in a class.

Pipe bomb, 100 block Foeller Drive, Oct. 21, two pipe bombs were found in the trash at a recycling facility.

DISTRICT D

Petty larceny, 200 block Millwheel Court, someone removed a brown plastic chicken from the front of a residence.

Hit and run, 400 block East Washington St., Oct. 21, a white, 4-door 91 Nissan Maximum struck a C&P telephone pole. The driver fled, leaving the vehicle.

Breaking and entering, 1100 block Nansemond Parkway, Oct. 21, someone entered a trailer by prying open a door.

Breaking and entering, 500 block Madison Ave., Oct. 21, someone removed a two-ton Yale chain hoist.

Breaking and entering, 500 block East Constance Road, Oct. 22, three men forced their way into a house when the front door was opened to let the dog in. The occupant was shoved up against a china cabinet while the thieves removed a VCR and a television.

Breaking and entering, 600 block Chisholm Lane, Oct. 22, a woman who heard suspicious noises at the back of her residence found pry marks at the screen frames.

Breaking and entering, 100 block Franklin St., Oct. 22, someone entered a residence by removing the glass in the door. Several canned goods and wine glasses were removed.

Breaking and entering, 500 block East Washington St., Oct. 23, the manager of a coin-operated laundry observed a suspicious man near the rear of the business. After he left, she discovered that the lock to the storage room had been pried.

Breaking and entering, 300 block Hill St., between Oct. 19 and 23, someone entered a residence through an unlocked side door. Several items were removed, including necklaces, a stick pin, earrings, bracelets and two money orders.

DISTRICT F

Grand larceny, 8400 block Whaleyville Blvd., Oct. 20, someone removed a trailer holding a Starcraft boat hull and a Mercury 200 series 20-horsepower engine from the back yard of a residence. The boat was recovered just across the North Carolina state line, but the motor is missing. ILLUSTRATION: Graphic

persons responsible for a man's death. The body of Steve Lavon

Edwards, 19, was found in a ditch Oct. 21, in the Huntersville

section.

Edwards, who had lived in the 1100 block of South St. in

Portsmouth, had been reported missing Oct. 13.

Information later received by Portsmouth investigators suggested

that Mr. Edwards may have been abducted. Indications are that the

crime may have been drug-related.
