SHELBY H. ELLIS

Shelby Jean Hedgepeth Ellis, 60, of the 17000 block of Black Creek Road, died Jan. 7, 1997.

A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie F. and Lucille Price Hedgepeth. Mrs. Ellis was a past member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and a Sunday School teacher, a member of Black Creek Baptist Church and former treasurer of the Baptist Women. She had worked for Union Life (Gulf) Insurance Co., Obici Hospital and had retired from Suffolk Health Department. She was a charter member of the Suffolk Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Kidney Foundation of Tidewater, Franklin/Southampton Pilot Club and the Ruritanettes of the Zuni Ruritan Club, where she was a group leader. She was a former member of the Pilot Club of Suffolk.

Survivors include her husband, Beverly Earl Ellis; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy E. and Shirley Moore of Franklin; two grandsons, Adam Wesley Moore and Ryan Andrew Moore; two brothers, Johnnie Wayne Hedgepeth and Terry L. Hedgepeth, both of Zuni; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Black Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne D. Underwood and the Rev. John Hartman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at the home of Frances Richards, 1326 Planters Drive, Suffolk.
