HEAD OF GAY RIGHTS GROUP TO TALK SATURDAY AT ODU

The head of one of the nation's largest gay rights organizations will be the keynote speaker Saturday at the seventh annual ``Breaking the Ice'' winter pride festival at Old Dominion University.

Kerry Lobel was recently named executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. The Washington-based group is approaching its 25th anniversary. She will speak at 2:30 p.m.

Workshops and roundtable discussions also will be conducted throughout the afternoon. Among the topics: ``Advocacy and the Politics of AIDS,'' ``Jack's House: The Challenge of AIDS Hospice Work,'' ``Homosexuality and the Bible'' and ``10 Mistakes Gays and Lesbians Make with Their Money.''

The festival brings together scores of local vendors and organizations serving the local gay and lesbian community. There will be live entertainment through the day.

At 7:30 p.m., several one-act plays produced by ODU students and alumni will be performed. There also will be country line dancing and a performance by singer-songwriter Julie Clark.

The festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at ODU's Webb student center. Admission is $3 for the general public, $1 for students.

The event is sponsored by the ODU Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Students and Allies and the Hampton Roads Lesbian and Gay Pride Coalition.
