JOHN E. RELYEA

John Edward Relyea, 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 1997. Born and raised in Highland, N.Y., he retired to Virginia Beach 22 years ago.

In addition to his wife, Patricia Smith Relyea, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Alan Graham of Evanston, Ill.; a son, John Relyea Jr., of California; and grandaughters, Shannon Graham of Hamburg, Germany, and Laura O'Brien of Chicago. He is also survived by sisters Mildred Boush and Virginia Benson of Highland; and brothers Kenneth Relyea of Norfolk and Wilfred Relyea of Clinton Corners, N.Y.

Mr. Relyea served during World War II as a deck officer in the U.S. Maritime Service, having graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Fort Trumbull, New London, Conn. He worked in construction office management until his retirement.

The body has been donated for the enlightenment of medical science. Friends may join the family on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the home of his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Paul Sellers, 6240 Rolfe Ave., Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
