A 31-year-old Beach woman was killed early Saturday when the 1988 Chevrolet she was driving was struck by a pickup at the intersection of Birdneck and Laskin roads.
Robin R. Gustafson of the 2700 block of Orleans Way died about 2:30 a.m., an hour after the crash.
Gustafson's passenger, Denise A. Reese, 29, of the 800 block of Spence Court in Virginia Beach, remained in stable condition in the critical care unit of Virginia Beach General Hospital on Saturday.
Shawn P. Teehan, 26, of the 2100 block of Carnaby Drive, was charged with driving under the influence and manslaughter.
Police said Teehan, driving a 1990 Ford pickup, failed to stop at a traffic light on Laskin Road and struck Gustafson's car, which was turning from Birdneck onto Laskin.
He was being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center and will be arraigned Monday in General District Court.
Master Police Officer Keith Acosta, with the city's fatal-accident crash team, is investigating.
