PLAYER COLLAPSES ON COURT

CHESAPEAKE - Great Bridge senior Stephen Parker collapsed on the court during the opening minutes of the Wildcats' game at Hickory High Tuesday night and had to be revived by rescue personnel.

The game was postponed.

Parker, who collapsed less than three minutes into the game, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Chesapeake General Hospital according to Great Bridge athletic director Wayne Martin.

Rescue personnel administered CPR and then used paddles to try to revive Parker. Emergency aid reportedly continued for 10 minutes before his pulse was restored.

As of late Tuesday, the cause of the collapse was unknown. Parker, who has no history of medical problems, was being examined by a cardiologist, but Martin reported that he had regained consciousness and was breathing on his own.
