Katherine Brosius Wooden, of the 7300 block of Glenroie Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, in a local hospital.

She was a former schoolteacher and during her career taught in the old Norfolk County Schools, Norfolk Public Schools and Norfolk Collegiate School. She was born in Dallas, and spent most of her young life in Marion, Va. She was the widow of Ernest E. Wooden Jr.

Mrs. Wooden was a graduate of Marion College, attended Old Dominion University, and did graduate studies at Duke University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, past president of the Norfolk Junior Woman's Club and the Elizabeth River Woman's Club. She was a former guide at the Hermitage Museum, a volunteer at the Chrysler Museum, the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Ernest E. Wooden III, his wife, Judy and two grandsons, Tyler and Andrew, all of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Mary Helen Nihart and her husband, retired U.S Marine Corps Col. Brooke Nihart of McLean, Va.; a brother, Henry Copenhaver Brosius, and his wife, Ann of Maitland, Fla; and four nieces.

A memorial funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Tim Roberts. Burial will be private in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in The Algonquin House, 7320 Glenroie Ave., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Music Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 820 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23507. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
