MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON

Police have charged a 22-year-old man with arson in connection with a fire Saturday in a Motel 6 in which a man was found dead.

Jason Lamont Woodard has been charged with two counts of arson, according to Dave Hughes, a spokesman for Chesapeake police. Woodard has no known address but is known to have frequented the Campostella and Ocean View areas. The homicide investigation is continuing, Hughes said.

William Kelly Martin, 32, of Norfolk was found dead in the smoke-filled, fire-damaged room at the Motel 6 in the 700 block of Woodlake Drive about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

He died from a blow or blows to the head, according to an autopsy.
