LOYD E. SEARS

Loyd Edward Sears, 78, of the 5400 block of Nansemond Parkway in Suffolk, died Feb. 13, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

He was native of Nansemond County and was an army veteran. He retired from Naval Ammunition Depot-Portsmouth. He was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, Suffolk, where he served as deacon.

His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary P. Sears; a son, James E. Sears of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Sears Shelton of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Senney Sears Turner of Clinton, Md.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Sears, Jonathan Sears, Gregory Shelton, all of Virginia Beach, Brandon Turner, Kimberly Turner of Clinton, Rodney Turner of Alexandria, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Maggie Elner and Mrs. Pearl Lawrence of Suffolk, Mrs. Ruby Robinson of Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Evelyn S. West of Chesapeake; two brothers, William H. Sears of Suffolk, Rudolph Sears of Portsmouth; an uncle, Mr. Johnnie Wilson of Philadelphia; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Brenda Yvonne Sears; sons-in-law, Larry W. Shelton of Virginia Beach, Walter C. Turner of Clinton; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Murtie Sears and Mrs. Vivian Wiggins, both of Suffolk, Mrs. Mildred Sears of Portsmouth, Mrs. Cennie James of Camden N.J.; and a brother-in-law, Rudy West of Chesapeake.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Canaan Baptist Church, Suffolk, by the Rev. Charles Bowens Sr. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
