WALTER C. LYON

Walter Clarence Lyon, 98, of Route 1, died Feb. 15, 1997, at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

Mr. Lyon was born in Windsor, N.C. and spent most of his life in the trap and Colerain area of Bertie County. He was the widower of Lucille Harrell Lyon, a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

Surviving are two sons, Skinny Lyon and wife, Betty of Powellsville, N.C., Dalton Lyon and wife, Joyce of Franklin; two half-sisters, Elizabeth McGee of Ahoskie, Jeannette Howell of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a half-brother, M.E. Valentine of Raleigh, N.C.; a grandson, Dal Lyon of Frankin; a granddaughter, Kristen Lyon of Durham, N.C.; and five step-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Robert Mary, with interment to follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and will assemble at the funeral home noon Monday prior to services.
