RAE G. SCOTT

Rae Garnett Scott, 82, of the 15000 block of Carroll Bridge Road, died Saturday Feb. 15, 1997, in Newport News.

Mr. Scott retired from Newport news Shipbuilding as a welder instructor in 1977 and was a farmer. He was a native of Isle of Wight, a member of Uzzell's United Methodist Church and a choir member who loved to sing. He was also a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Turner Scott; four daughters, Nancy S. Armstrong of Burlington, N.C., Elizabeth ``Betty'' S. Butler, Jean S. Minton, Carol Scott, all of Smithfield; two sons, Eddie Rae Scott, Jimmy E. Scott, both of Smithfield; two sisters, Annie S. Jarret of Waverly, Va., Mae Scott Nappier; two brothers, Carey Scott, Robb Scott, both of Smithfield; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Uzzell's United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Jones. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at his residence on 15194 Carroll Bridge Road and suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Smithfield Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 1, Isle of Wight, Va. 23397. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
