MARLINS LOSE ON 3-POINTER AT OT BUZZER

Emory & Henry freshman guard Justin Porterfield heaved in a turnaround 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime as the Wasps defeated Virginia Wesleyan 92-90 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game Saturday.

The Marlins fell to 15-8, 12-5 ODAC. Wesleyan's James MacLeod had a game-high 29 points with eight 3-pointers, one to send the game to overtime tied at 83.

It was the first game the team had played after seven basketball players were among 23 Wesleyan athletes suspended by the school Thursday for their roles in a Jan. 18 campus fight.

Porterfield, who scored 27 points, hit his shot after the Marlins' Ken Clough had hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left to give Wesleyan a 90-89 lead. Emory & Henry inbounded, called time to set up at halfcourt, and got the ball to Porterfield. It was the third straight win by the Wasps (9-14, 9-8 ODAC) against a first-place ODAC team.
