JAMES A. BYRUM

James Andrew ``Jimmy'' Byrum, 81, of the 300 block of Cannons Ferry Road, died Feb. 16, 1997, in Skilled Nursing Facility in Edenton.

A native of Chowan County, he was the owner of Jimmy's Bait Place and a retired commercial fisherman. He was the son of the late James Edward and Esther Jordan Byrum. He was preceded in death by his wives, Marie Ashley Byrum and Carrie Wilkins Byrum, and a brother, Bobby Byrum.

Surviving are five sons, James Edward Byrum of Sunbury, Richard Andrew Byrum, Roy Junior Byrum, Herbert Ray Byrum and Bobby Gene Byrum, all of Tyner; one stepson, Ralph Wilkins of Sunbury; five sisters, Ora Lee Byrum of Edenton, Lillian Knotts of Florida, Ann Hooks of Winterville, Ruby Bonacorsi of Tarpon Springs, Fla. and Mary Rosenthal of Portsmouth; a brother, Titus Byrum of Seaford, Va.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Byrum/Modlin Cemetery by the Rev. Lamar Sentell. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Byrum in Tyner.
