Eugurtha M. Johnson, 78, of the 500 block of Henderson Street died Feb. 20, 1997, in Maryview Hospital.
She was a self-employed private duty nurse for 30 years before retiring. She was a native of Norfolk County, Va., and a member and past chairperson of the deaconess board and a deaconess of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She was a member of No. 2 choir, helping hand club, Mary A. Johnson Club, church nurse and a vacation Bible school helper. She was past president of the Cavalier Manor Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include her husband, Deacon Willie A. Johnson; daughter, Amy Creekmore of Portsmouth; son, Myron Johnson of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
