JOSEPH E. SPEICHER

Joseph Edward Speicher, 70, of the 200 block of Faulk Road, died March 5, 1997, in his residence.

Mr. Speicher was a native of Carbondale, Pa., and a resident of Norfolk since 1956. He retired from the Naval Education and Training and Device Center as a mechanical engineer after 17 years employment. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was an active member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, and a member and former president of its men's club.

Mr. Speicher was a member of and past president of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter (NU)4, member of the St. Matthew's Knights of Columbus, and a past grand commander of the International Order of the Alhambra, Padul Caravan 69.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marian Hale Speicher of Norfolk; two daughters, Joanne T. Sawyer of Virginia Beach, Nancy C. Robbins of Chesapeake; a sister, Nancy Pavlicka of Hellertown, Pa.; two brothers, Eugene Speicher of Mount Pocono, Pa., Kenneth Speicher of Chester, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Katie and Kimberly Jo Robbins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at noon Saturday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church by the Rev. Timothy Drake and the Rev. James Guttendorf. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A Christian wake service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Matthew's Catholic Church Building Fund.
