Ruth White Phillips, died April 7, 1997, in a Norfolk nursing home. She was 89.
The daughter of George B. and Lucie Latham White, she was born in Beaufort County, N.C., on Feb. 19, 1908. She was the widow of Harry Cullum Phillips. After graduating from Alliance High School in Pamlico County, N.C., she studied nursing at the Philadelphia General Hospital from which she graduated as a registered nurse in 1936. She practiced nursing in Greenwich, Conn., and in Norfolk. She was a member of Ghent United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Benjamin L. White of Corolla, N.C., and a stepson, Harry C. Phillips Jr. of Denton, Texas.
A funeral service is planned.
