STORE CLERK SHOT IN APPARENT ROBBERY

A clerk at the Holiday Food Store in the 600 block of Carolina Road was shot in the face Wednesday in an apparent robbery attempt.

Sherry R. Harris, 32, was taken to Obici Hospital with injuries that police said did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police said a black man, wearing dark clothes and a ski mask, walked into the store about 9:50 a.m. and fired a small-caliber, semi-automatic handgun several times. The store manager, who was in the back of the store, called police.

Harris, of the 1100 block of Nansemond Parkway, was lying on the floor behind the counter when police arrived.

The suspect, described as thin and about 5 foot 7, ran from the store. Police said two black males were seen running toward nearby apartments and getting into a white car after the shooting. MEMO: Anyone with information is asked to call detectives E.C. Harris
