THE ACTION WAS BETTER SOUTH OF OREGON INLET PIER

Pier fishing along the northern beach area was unusually slow Wednesday.

Kitty Hawk and Avalon piers reported few fishermen and no fish taken.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier landed a few shad, bluefish and a couple of croakers and several ling cod.

Fishing was slow on Jennette's Pier throughout the day.

Outer Banks Pier also reported very little action.

South of Oregon Inlet Pier, fishing was quite a bit better.

Lots of tailor bluefish were taken on bucktails from Rodanthe Pier during most of the day. Fair numbers of sea mullet were also landed on both shrimp and bloodworms.

Fishermen on Avon Pier caught good numbers of sea mullet and spot.

Sea mullet and croakers weighing up to 1 1/2 pounds, small gray trout and toadfish were taken steadily from Frisco Pier.

Action in the surf from Corolla to Oregon Inlet was slow.

Around Oregon Inlet, a few sea mullet, small blues and toadfish were hauled from the surf.

Some nice sea mullet, spot and toadfish were beached by surf casters from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Several drum were landed at Cape Point Tuesday night. Plenty of sea mullet were taken from Ramp 43 to Cape Point Wednesday.

Quite a few nice-size drum were landed at False Point late Tuesday night. The anglers that were successful waded to the bar to catch the fish. Scattered sea mullet and other small bottom fish were caught by surf casters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet Wednesday.

Due to fairly gusty winds and choppy seas, no charters fished off Hatteras or Oregon Inlet Wednesday.

The water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 54 degrees Wednesday and 59 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
