MICHAEL E. FOARD

Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Edward ``Mike'' Foard, 39, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997.

A native of York County, Va., and a graduate of Tabb High School class of 1976, where he played varsity baseball and basketball, he attended Lynchburg College and joined the U.S. Navy in 1981. He served during Desert Storm and had duties in San Diego, Pensacola and Jacksonville and returned to Gloucester in 1996. Mike was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base on the USS Wasp as an aviation specialist. He was a softball coach and player and an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy E. Foard; son, Joshua Foard at home; his parents, Eddie and Shirley Foard of Gloucester; three sisters, Debbie Campbell and her husband, John, of Gloucester, Karen Foard of Nags Head, N.C., and Susan Phaup and husband, Rusty, of Gloucester; brother, James A. Foard and his wife, Joanne of Hampton; grandfather, Arthur Severance of South Carolina; mother-in-law, Esther Eason of San Diego; five nieces, Corey and Amber Turner, Lindsay and Whitley Phaup and Madison Foard.

A service in celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in Amory Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. John D. Sadler. The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
