JESSE A. HARRELL

Jesse Augustus Harrell, 84, of the 1000 block of Myrtle St., died July 12, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mr. Harrell was born in Edgecombe County, N.C., and was retired as police chief of Suffolk with 35 years' service in the Police Department. He was a member of Somerton Friends Meeting, the Police Association of Virginia and Orbit Hunt Club. He was the son of the late Howard Augustus Harrell and Liddie Eliza Davenport Harrell.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Smith Harrell; a daughter, Mary Alice H. Grand of Lafayette, La.; a son, Fred A. Harrell of Hampton; a brother, Edward S. Harrell of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Michael D. Halley. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and at other times in the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Suffolk Christian Church Building Fund, P.O.
