CO-WORKER CHARGED AFTER MIGRANT IS FATALLY SHOT

A migrant laborer from Florida was shot to death Tuesday morning, and a fellow worker has been charged with murder.

Sheriff Robert Crockett said the victim - Patricio Rodriquez, 21, of Immokalee, Fla. - was shot once in the abdomen with a rifle shortly before 1:30 a.m. at a labor camp on Big Pine Road, near Pungoteague.

The Sheriff's Department was called to the camp on a report of a fight. Deputies found Rodriquez and another victim, a juvenile, whose face was cut.

Later that morning, deputies arrested Geraldo Navarrete, 40, also of Immokalee, Fla. He was identified as the uncle of the juvenile stabbing victim. It is not known how the shooting and stabbing are related, or what the fight was about.

The suspect is being held in Accomack County Jail. KEYWORDS: MURDER SHOOTING ARREST
