ABLOWICH SELECTED FOR PUNGO SEAT ON BEACH SCHOOL BOARD

D.A. ``Al'' Ablowich is the Pungo Borough's new representative to the School Board.

Ablowich, who replaces Paul Lanteigne, was unanimously chosen by board members Monday after they briefly met in closed session. He could be sworn in as early as today.

``I'm very happy that the School Board has demonstrated trust and confidence in me and in the people (who spoke) on my behalf,'' Ablowich said.

He hopes to help the board members in ``carrying out their goals and objectives. . . . I haven't brought into the job any agenda. I'm the new guy on the block.''

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Ablowich is a senior systems analyst for computer software development with Lockheed Martin. His wife is a teacher at Birdneck Elementary School. They have one adult daughter.

Ablowich serves as president of the Back Bay/Pungo Civic League and is recording secretary for the Council of Civic Organizations. He is a former chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach City Committee.

Board Chairman Robert Hagans thanked the other four applicants for the position and said the choice was a difficult one because of the candidates' quality. He said Ablowich's experience as a Naval Academy instructor and systems analyst would bring to the board ``a unique perspective - a combination of educational and technological expertise.''
