LOUIS LAWRENCE

Louis Lawrence, 69, of the 29000 block of Bethany School Road, died Aug. 3, 1997.

He had retired as a command sergeant major after 24 years in the Army, having served in the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. Mr. Lawrence was also the retired owner and operator of Lawrence's Garage and was a member of the Franklin Moose Lodge. He was born in Oak City, N.C., and was the son of the late Wiley B. and Winnie Wynn Pierce.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ella Mae King Lawrence; three daughters, Brenda Griggs of Lititz, Pa., Cathy Lawrence of Suffolk and Robin Gaye Spear of Hampton; two sons, James Lawrence of Sutherland, Va., and Eddie Lawrence of Franklin; four sisters, Mamie Pritchard of Jacksonville, N.C., Hazel Drewry of Newport News, Barbara Jean Baron of Gunnison, Colo., and Winnie Deloris Patterson of Norfolk; nine grandchildren, Derek, Brandon and Brittany Griggs, Kem Lawrence, Alysha Lawrence, Leanna Spear, Jeremy Lawrence, Randy and Jamie Lawrence; nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
