RAYMOND M. NANCE

Raymond Maxie Nance, 75, of the 2700 block of Longstreet Lane, departed this life to be with the Lord Aug. 3, 1997, in Autumn Care, Suffolk.

He was born in Winslow, Pike County, Ind., and was a Baptist. Mr. Nance retired as a state trooper with the Virginia State Police after 28 years and was a retired security guard from Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps and served in the 432nd Bomb Squad Heavy. He was a charter member of the American Fellowship Masonic Lodge (NU)148 AF & AM.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Morgan Nance; a stepdaughter and husband, Adele C. and Benny T. Copeland of Suffolk; a son, Raymond Maxie Nance Jr. of Suffolk; a stepson and wife, C. Morgan and Linda O. Carr of Suffolk; four sisters, Rosie N. Roberson, Jeri N. Schmidt of Cocoa, Fla., Marjorie N. Riley, Doris N. McKenny of Indiana; a brother, Bill G. Nance of Plano, Texas; and four grandchildren, Ben Copeland, Stacey Copeland, Nathan Carr and Natalie Carr, all of Suffolk. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Dessie Blackner Nance and Norman H. Nance.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Neck Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas Edwards. The family will receive friends at Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
