TASTE VICTORY IN THESE FOOD CONTESTS

HAVE YOU EVER wanted to be in print? Now's your chance. Culinary Art of Tidewater is holding a cooking contest for its next edition of Culinary Artists: Tidewater's Regional Chefs Cookbook.

Each contestant can submit up to three recipes.

Previously unpublished, original recipes will be accepted through Oct. 1. All recipes must be typed and serve six or less. Ingredients must be readily available, and listed in the order in which they appear in the procedures.

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the homemade ice cream churn, Edy's is sponsoring a contest in search of ice cream churns/freezers. They can be old or new, hand-cranked or not.

Categories include most appreciated, crankiest, cutest, homeliest and oldest.

Send a picture with 250 words or less of your churn's qualifications in the selected category.

Five first-place winners will receive a trip for two to Houston to tour Edy's Grand Ice Cream factory.

Entries must be postmarked by Aug. 31, 1997, and mailed to: Churn Challenge, Edy's Grand Ice Cream, 5929 College Ave., Oakland, Calif. 94618. One entry per person.

Quaker Oats announces its ``Bake It Better With Oats'' recipe contest.

A grand prize of $12,000 will be given for the best of contest. One first prize winner in each category will receive $1,200.

The Butterball Turkey Talk-Line is hosting the ``Butterball's Most Creative Soup and Sandwich'' recipe contest.

Two winners will receive $500 and Butterball Turkey gift certificates.

Participants must be 18 and older. Original recipes must have no more than 10 ingredients and include turkey as a meat ingredient. Entries must be received by Sept. 15, 1997.

Kids can sing their way to a $20,000 college scholarship and star in an Oscar Mayer commercial by singing the Oscar Mayer Weiner Jingle or Bologna Song.

The Oscar Mayer Talent Search is on. The Weinermobile will be rolling into Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Hampton sometime before Sept. 1.

But if you don't like crowds you can send a VHS videotape of the child singing along with a complete entry form (available at participating stores). Only one mail-in/live audition per contestant.
