WIND SHIFT BRINGS GOOD PIER FISHING

A change in the wind to a northerly direction resulted in good pier fishing along the northern beaches Tuesday.

Kitty Hawk Pier anglers caught lots of spot, a few bluefish and scattered Spanish mackerel.

Avalon Pier reported good bluefish action during the morning. Most of the choppers were taken on jiggers or bucktail rigs.

Spot and tailor blues were landed on Nags Head Pier throughout the day.

Jennette's Pier reported Spanish mackerel and bluefish taken from the pier's end during the morning and lots of pompano, scattered bluefish, Spanish mackerel and spot landed in the afternoon.

Fishing was good on Outer Banks Pier, particularly in the afternoon. Lots of bluefish, a few Spanish mackerel, spot and croaker were taken.

South of Oregon Inlet, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught scattered croaker, spot and a few bluefish.

Scattered small croaker were taken on Avon Pier.

Sand perch, sea mullet, spadefish and croaker were landed from Frisco Pier.

Surfcasters caught small bottom fish in fairly good numbers from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

Small bottom fish, tailor blues, gray trout and a few sheepshead were landed around Oregon Inlet.

Spot, pompano, gray trout and croaker were landed by surf fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Scattered bluefish and ribbonfish were beached at Cape Point Tuesday morning. Small bottom fish were landed in the area during the day.

Bluefish, Spanish mackerel and sea mullet were taken by surfcasters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling was a bit slow around Oregon Inlet with a few bluefish taken. Headboats in the inlet area caught croaker.

Blue water action off Oregon Inlet was slow with a few dolphin and wahoo taken. A white marlin was released by the Surfside.

Hatteras Harbor Marina reported good catches of Spanish mackerel and bluefish taken by charterboats in the Hatteras Inlet area.

Good numbers of wahoo, scattered dolphin, a few tuna and some king mackerel were taken in the Gulf Stream off Hatteras. Sailfish were released by the Marlin Mania and the Albatross III.

The water temperature was 75 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
