HAROLD D. OYERLY

Harold Dean Oyerly, 58, of the 1100 block of Rebel Run Court, died Aug. 21, 1997, in Norfolk.

Born in St. Joseph, Mo., he retired as a BM1 after 22 years of service in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleet and covered duty stations ranging from the Rhine River Patrol in Germany to the waters of Vietnam. He served on auxiliary ships, amphibious warfare ships and on destroyers. Mr. Oyerly received the 4th Star and a Meritorious Commendation for his service in Vietnam. He also received the Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Marie Oyerly; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Oyerly of North Carolina, Sherry Lynn Oyerly and Robin Marie Oyerly, both of Virginia Beach; one stepdaughter, Cindy Jo Sappenfield of Norfolk; and a sister, Donna Bailey of St. Joseph; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah B. and Clarence E. Oyerly; a son, Jerry Dean Oyerly; a stepson, Joseph Howard Peters; a brother, Clarence Ronald Oyerly; and two sisters, Clara Bell Schroff and Betty Jean Schroff.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Allen L. Dooley. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
