GEORGE E. WRIGHT

Retired U.S. Army Col. George E. Wright, 81, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997.

A native of Wesleyville, Pa., he had been a Peninsula resident for 30 years.

He was a 1938 graduate of the University of George and later pursued his graduate degree at American University.

In 1941, he joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II in the European Theater and in the Korean Conflict. Col. Wright retired from the U.S. Army in 1962 after 20 years of service. He continued working with the U.S. Army in a civil service capacity until his second retirement in 1985.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia J. Doerter of Franklin, Tenn.; three sons, Gary W. Wright of Virginia Beach, Charles R. Wright of Memphis, Tenn., Randy J. Wright of Pasadena, Texas; his brother, Wayne F. Wright of Erie, Pa.; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and his companion and friend, Eleanor Eisenman.

A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Peninsula Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 303 Butler Farm Road, Suite 106A, Hampton, Va. 23666-1521. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
