EMMETT L. BAXTER JR.

Emmett Lansing Baxter Jr., 58, of the 3500 block of Tidewater Drive, departed this life after a long illness on Aug. 31, 1997, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Mr. Baxter was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. He managed the family business of Bender's Venetian Blinds since 1960. He graduated from Granby High School, was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a former leader with Boy Scout Troop 18, Norfolk.

Survivors include his loving mother and father, Mary Lawrence Baxter and Emmett Lansing Baxter Sr. of Norfolk; a brother, William Lawrence ``Butch'' Baxter and his wife, Debbie of Chesapeake; his aunt, Maxine Carpenter of Virginia Beach; and his nephews, Michael and Tim Baxter.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. George T. Insley Jr. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
