ESSIE W. CHAMBERS

Mrs. Essie Walker Chambers, a native of Monroe County., Ala., and a resident of Portsmouth for many years, passed on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Chambers was a loving mother and an educator of children for 31 years, having retired from the Portsmouth Public School System. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk.

She is survived by two loving sons, John Autrey Jr. and his wife, Amparo, of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Ezell Autrey and his wife, Becky, of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Andrea Autrey of Dallas; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Chambers is being sent from Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, to the Johnson and Allen Funeral Home, Mobile, Ala. where services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oaklawn Cemetery. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
