WILLIAM H. CHANDLER

William Hogg Chandler, 74, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997.

The son of Vibart A. Chandler and Edith Hogg Chandler, he retired as vice president and treasurer of V.A. Chandler and Son Inc., a local insurance agency which was founded in 1918 by his father. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He served in World War II in Europe as a combat infantry medic. He was the recipient of the two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Star Medals and Combat Infantry Medical Badge. He was active in local community affairs having served three terms as mayor and three terms on the Onancock Town Council. He was a charter member and past president of the Onancock Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. Mr. Chandler was educated at V.P.I.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Mapp Chandler; his children, William H. Chandler Jr. and his wife, Coni M. Chandler of Accomac, James Mapp Chandler and his wife, Ramona A. Chandler of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren, Chelsea, Kendall, Rian, Keely Chandler.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Onancock, by the Rev. Andrew H. Zeman. A visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today in Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
